Course Overview

The diploma in Health Systems Management course is designed to develop an all-round health systems manager and administrator who is competently prepared to serve the needs of a healthcare organization with integrity, diligence, professionalism and compassion.

Many health institution managers and administrators in developing countries are trained in their technical disciplines and deployed to run facilities and departments without requisite competence in managing health systems. Consequently, many health institutions face significant challenges in leadership and governance, service delivery, administration of health financing, human resource coordination, ineffective management of health commodities, and weak health information management systems and technology. Training in Health Systems Management is intended to bridge this capacity gap.

Course Objectives

The purpose of the diploma in Health Systems Management course is to contribute to a responsive health care system that positively impacts society. It is designed to develop all-round managers and administrators’ who are competently prepared to serve the needs of healthcare organizations with integrity, diligence, professionalism and compassion.

Expected Learning Outcomes of the Program.

By the end of the program, the learner should be able to:

1. Acquire leadership and management competencies to effect positive change in health care organizations.
2. Develop managerial skills to improve quality of service delivery.
3. Apply Health Systems Management knowledge and skills to mobilize, allocate and utilize resources to promote access to health care.
4. Efficiently manage health commodity supply chain, information and technology to support service delivery.

Duration and Start Date

The diploma in Health Systems Management is a 2 years program, delivered on semester basis for a total of 4 semesters.

Entry Requirements

Either

1. KCSE mean grade C plain

                  Or

2. Passed relevant craft in Management
3. Passed relevant Diploma discipline
4. Passed a degree in relevant field
5. Any other equivalent qualification recognised by AIU
